MALTA, 30 April 2024Nium, the global leader in real-time, cross-border payments, is proud to announce its collaboration with Malta’s Children in Need Foundation, alongside Padel Malta, in the island’s first-ever 24-hour padel marathon. The first serve will be taken at 3pm local time today and run until 3pm local time tomorrow. The non-stop action will be played around the clock by local seasoned players, newcomers, as well as eager volunteers to raise donations to support healthy childhood development for over 450 Maltese children in foster or residential care.

“Rapidly growing in popularity globally, we identified a unique and creative opportunity to match an inclusive sport, like padel, with building consciousness for The Children in Need Foundation in Malta. Designed to be entertaining for people of all ages, and sporting skill levels, our 24-hour marathon is set to be an event to remember. We appreciate the support of the Nium team in bringing our idea to life and look forward to the opportunities it will inevitably bring about for our younger generations, who deserve the attention most,” says Daniel Abela, Chairman of The Children in Need Foundation.

The Children in Need Foundation in Malta has made it their mission to try and ensure that every Maltese child, from infants to those in their late teens, has the necessary access to physical, mental, and emotional support to reach their full potential, regardless of their background or circumstance. Although cared for and nurtured by various care homes and foster families, psychotherapy is often limited in supply, despite some of the difficult past experiences the children may have faced. This marathon aims to raise awareness about this ongoing challenge and promote psychological care.

Mark Anthony Spiteri, Nium’s General Manager for Malta, Senior Vice President, and Global Head of Nium’s Card Business, adds, “It is a true privilege to team up with The Children in Need Foundation in Malta for a cause that’s so close to our hearts. At Nium, we are led by the ethos of #SimplyBetterTogether, and this initiative proves exactly that. Good luck to those participating and thank you to everyone involved in supporting today’s youth and tomorrow’s generation.”
